Elvis - “Suspicious Minds”
This is another of my favorite songs.
It seems strangely appropriate at this moment.
Last all-time favorite song, I posted: In My Life.
We’re caught in a trap
I can’t walk out
Because I love you too much baby
Why can’t you see
What you’re doing to me
When you don’t believe a word I say?
We can’t go on together
With suspicious minds
And we can’t build our dreams
On suspicious minds
So, if an old friend I know
Drops by to say hello
Would I still see suspicion in your eyes?
Here we go again
Asking where I’ve been
You can’t see these tears are real
I’m crying
Oh let our love survive
Or dry the tears from your eyes
Let’s not let a good thing die
When honey, you know
I’ve never lied to you
Ooh yeah, yeah
We’re caught in a trap
I can’t walk out
Because I love you too much baby
Why can’t you see
What you’re doing to me
When you don’t believe a word I say
We’re caught in a trap
I can’t walk out
Sohos recommended listening to the version by the Fine Young Cannibals. I surfed around, and it’s pretty damned good! Then again, Tony mentioned a version by Dwight Yoakum. It’s equally outstanding. Imitation is always said to be the best compliment, eh?

Oh yea Elvis could really shake that groove thing! Far out! There will never be another Elvis. I’m having a flashback to the 60’s. Could his collar be any bigger? Where did I put my bell bottoms? If only I could go back in time, I’d tell Elvis lay off the doughnuts and kick Colonel Parker out the door. Oh and don’t worry about your daughter marrying Michael Jackson.
Steve says, “And here I thought that you still wore bell-bottoms.”

Have a great time Steve, enjoy it!
You know I do one mean Elvis impersanation.
Steve says, “You should put your Elvis thing up on YouTube or something!”

So was D still a good guy? He is the strong silent type. You’ll have to make the first move but then look out!
Steve don’t kiss and tell.

Have you heard the Fine Young Cannibals version? It is real good too.
Steve says, “No, I’m gonna go to YouTube and search for it. I used to love the FYC! They put out a few great hits in the late 80’s, and then just seemed to disappear. Thanks for the tip.”

Have you heard the title track from the new Debbie Harry CD?!?!
It feels kind of my life — there is a line that goes something like,
” a hard metal hammered to a shape that you fit
When I beat up Miss Fortune, told her to get out
I sold the last things on eBay
I was without doubt caught between that hard-place in over my head, chewing off something in a trap
Quicksand in my bed
Necessary evil
Two arms, two legs
Our presents ain’t counted
Walking on eggs
Necessary evil
Now don’t disappear
Got a whiplash for memory
I’m staying here…”
…love that song. love the whole CD as a matter of fact.
Steve says, “First of all, not sure why you’re comment went to spam? But glad I caught it! And no, I haven’t heard any of her new CD yet. Thanks for the tip. I’ll get a-googling!”

I love the FYC version too. Jimmy Somerville’s back up vocals are incredible. Dwight Yoakam also does a great cover. Of course Elvis is the King, but there have been some great covers over the years.
Steve says, “Didn’t know Dwight Yoakam did a cover LOL. Learning all kinds of things this week!”

This is the deal: My blog has been rebooted. But I can’t, in good faith, not have my favorite songs, of all time, on this site. So, I’m reposting an entry from last year (which is why there are comments previous to this current post date). I know, I’m technically cheating, but I heart music!
