Winky ♥√♣
There was something different about this guy. It was obvious that he had been crying, and he seemed to be slightly developmentally disabled. I said to him, “Hey, what’s up? What did you stick in my mailbox?” Then the tears began, “I lost Winky. He’s 2 years old, and he didn’t come home 3 days ago.” He reaches under his arm, and hands me a copy of the flyer, out of the stack. It has his phone number, a description of his cat, and a drawing of his pet (it’s a stick-figured rendering, not much different than what one sees a toddler sketch. The cat is missing an eye, and he placed an ‘x’ on the face to represent that, and an ‘o’ to point out the remaining eye; hence the name ‘Winky’). I wanted to say to him, “If you have a photo, I can draw a better image on this flyer, so that someone recognizes your cat.” But, I didn’t want to hurt his feelings. So, I got him to give me a picture, and we went to Kinko’s to photo-copy it, for his notice.
I hope he finds his pet.
A few other things:
Lastly, sometime soon (either this entry or the next) I will hit my 10,000th comment! Considering that this blog has been in existence a little less than 2 years; that’s impressive, IMHO.

Awwwwwwwwwwww …I hope Winky is found. That was so nice of you to help him out.
Steve says, “Contrary to the dramatic rage I seem to elicit in some, I am too nice of a guy. But I think that even an asshole would’ve helped this man! Yeah, having one eye makes the cat stand out, with or without a better image; but most don’t stop to read flyers. They glance at the pic, and only read the ’story’ if they recognize the animal. I know that from my own experience.”

Thank you for helping this guy make a flyer with a more recognizable image of Winky. I hope Winky makes it home, and that this fella’ gets that peace in his soul.
Steve says, “I hope he finds his cat, too. I’m going to call him in a week. I think, I’m almost afraid too (if he doesn’t find the cat).”

You did good Steve! He might want to check with the local shelter. If they don’t have his cat they have plenty more. Reminds me of an old joke, A guy in a bar looks up and says, “hey look a one eyed cat coming in”. his partner says, “that cat ain’t coming in it’s going out!”.
Steve says, “So many animals disappear. There’s 2-3 new bulletins on telephone poles, everyday. And there was an article about people breaking into homes, just to steal pets. Hate to say it, but the black market for pedigrees (one’s stolen from houses), and outdoor cats/dogs (swiped and used for dog-fighting) is alarming. Hopefully, his cat is fine.”

I hope the guy finds his cat! Be careful what you say! ‘Developmentally Disabled.’ You don’t want a reader, with no life, to get offended, do you?
Steve says, “Bite Me.”

I have to comment….I never do…just an avid reader….the last time I did comment on Josh’s blog I got sucked into all that drama and somehow became you and him….who knew?? Well anyways…the reason I need to comment is that I have a little pet peeve of mine being a Special Education teacher…when people do not say a disability “properly”. Properly (or the new PC I suppose) is the person first and then the disability…such as “a person who is deaf” versus “a deaf person”. So all in all…you said it “correctly”. Kudos to you!! Please tell Josh I said hi!! I miss reading his blog!
Steve says, “Hi Erin! I know of you simply because you got sucked into ‘the mess’ along with a lot of other innocent people
But I am completely ignoring
There’s not much else to do when dealing with the kind of stuff many of us have. And I don’t even like talking about it, anymore; even under comments. LOL Anyhow, I try to be aware of the PC terms. But if I ever ’slip’ it’s only because I’m not up on the latest wording! But I think that people can get a feel of whether someone is ’sensitive’ to the differences in others or just callous. Anyhow, Josh is on his way over. We have a T.V. ritual thing on Sunday’s! Last thing, I see your IP, and now know who you are. You do read a lot, and are always welcome to read from a distance, or comment!”

If I post another comment here, that means you are getting closer to the big number, right? Is there a prize for being the 10,000th comment???
Steve says, “It does bring things closer. And what has made it get to 10,000 so fast is that my comment section sometimes turns into micro-chatrooms; with dialogue around whatever was written. That’s how I’ve always envisioned this blog being. So I got my reward. How do I compensate someone for that? Any suggestions?”

Do we win a prize for being the 10,000 comment? I want confetti
Steve says, “Shit, I can fed ex you pounds of confetti. That would be an inexpensive gift!”

That is really sad. I hope he can find Winky. I would hate to loose a pet.
Steve says, “I hope he does too. I’m gonna call him sometime next week.”

This post made me want to cry. Not only did you help the guy make a new flier, but you did it without making him feel worse than he most likely already did.
Big hugs to you, Steve.
Steve says, “I keep saying that I’m a nice guy! I don’t need to say it, I demonstrate through my actions. But the main reason I wrote this entry is because the day, I wrote it, was a VERY BAD DAY. And I needed to write about pretty much the only good thing that happened on that day.”
