Stamp Rant

U.S. Stamp Rate IncreaseI just bought a book of stamps!

Then, I watch the news and find that it’s going up by a cent (like this coming week).  Why does it feel like they’ve just raised the price?  I guess I’ll have to buy one cent stamps, to go along with the book, I just got?

How Annoying.

With more people paying their bills on line and sending e-mail, the postal system is becoming outdated. I buy the forever stamps so when they go up I can still use them.

Steve says, “I’m so outta the loop that I didn’t know about the forever stamp until last night.”

i think i prefer having 1cent stamps lying around to a jar full of pennies. at least the stamp has potential to be useful.

Steve says, “That’s very true. Most of my billing is done online. But I have 1 bill that I mail each month. I guess I’ll by the forever stamp. Cuz by the time I use up this book, it’ll probably have gone up another cent or two, beyond this increase.:P

I know what you mean, it seems like we just had a postage rate increase! I’ve got 3 books of stamps scattered around the house, and now I’m going to have to get a bunch of 1 cent stamps. They probably won’t be available, because everyone is getting them so the P.O. will run out. Like they do every time the rates increase. Grrrrr

Besides that, how is your day? :)

Steve says, “Day is good, and hope yours is too. I’m fighting the grumpiness over having about a week of pretty much, non-stop rain. Cold and damp.”

I couldn’t even tell you what the price of a stamp is right now because they change it so often that I can’t keep up. Last I remember, it was like 37 cents but I’m fairly certain that it’s well over 40 now. I still use them for some bills but with the kind they sell now, they don’t even bother putting the price on them anymore in anticipation of it going up again. crazy!

Steve says, “Yeah, I’ve noticed that there’s no price or the price is disguised really well. It’s going up to 42 cents.”

Steve says, “You don’t have to post my comment. Just wanted to make sure you got the message since I didn’t have your email.”

Steve! You’re supposed to buy the forever stamps. You can use them forever. LOL Stock up so the next time there’s an increase you won’t need to buy any one cent stamps.

Steve says, “Kim, you know that I live under a rock! I didn’t even know about the forever stamp!!!! I bought a roll of stamps like 5 years ago. I’ve just been wasting money, doubling up postage, as the price has gone up (several times) since I’d bought the roll. And then, recently, I bought a book. Didn’t think much about it as I really don’t write letters and only mail one bill a month. The rest are done online. Then they raised the fee!!!!”

  7. Jack Naasti Says:

well I’d say write some letters, and use up that postage! I have been doing that lately, and it is amazing the number of people who write back as opposed to answering emails (we are not counting people who blog) we all know they are more advanced

Steve says, “I haven’t written a letter in at least 2 years. Before the net, I used to love writing letters. Especially during the years that I lived out West, and my family was all on the East Coast.”

  8. Steven Says:

The same thing happened to me. I bought the 100 stamps about two weeks ago and I asked the clerk if he knew if the rate was expected to go up in the next two months. He told me “No.” AARRGGHH!!

Steve says, “I was told the same thing by the clerk who sold them to me!”

  9. javabear Says:

I wonder if postal employees are instructed to lie about rate increases. That’s just stoopid. Of course they knew!

I’ve been following your local weather. I’ve another blog buddy in your area who’s moods are adversely affected by too little sun. Grumpiness abounds, ‘twould seem.

You should come down here for a visit. Clear sunny skies, warm breezes but not too hot (yet). Pollen is ’bout to kill me, though. I’d like a bit of rain to wash the air clean of the pollen.

Steve says, “Yeah the postal clerk lied! And yes the weather has made me very grumpy. Flood warnings and power outages all over the damned place. The good news is that it’s finally supposed to be 70 and sunny, tomorrow!”

  10. paperdreamer Says:

You know what? My mom was the one to tell me they’d raised the price of stamps. Otherwise I’m stuck in my book…

    Steve—-> :lol:
