Buyer’s Remorse ♥√♣
I have a difficult time purchasing things for myself. I mean, I can do it. But, I’m riddled with guilt whenever I splurge. I recently bought my first digital camera (only after being ridiculed by the little kids, in my life, for several days). Then my monitor died. It was due for a death. It came bundled with my computer, which I bought almost 6 years ago. So, I bought a 19″ LCD Monitor (pictured above, in the dark, so that everyone can get the full effect). I love the damned thing, but feel badly over indulging myself. Today, I got a manicure, pedicure, and my eyebrows waxed cleaned up (that’s what my sister told me that guys call it, “cleaned up“). I’ve never had a manicure, pedicure, or my brows done before. BTW, I’m not so sure I’ll get the eyebrows done again. They did a technique called, “threading.” It hurt like a mother fucker. Anyhow, does anyone else feel remorseful when buying things for themselves (or am I hopelessly neurotic)? The funny thing is that I love buying gifts for others (and feel no sorrow over doing it). What’s that say about me?

It says you care more for others then that you care for yourself.
Keep in mind ‘those others’ didn’t buy you a camera, or a monitor or splashed out on a pampering treatment, and they never will, you have to do it all yourself.
So pamper yourself because others won’t.
The only complain I get on my birthday, “We don’t know what to buy because you buy it for yourself!”
Steve says, “Yeah, I’m learning to pamper myself.”

Think of it not as indulging yourself but helping the economy. The more Chinese crap we buy the sooner they’ll rule the world. There are made in the USA products around if you look for them. The pampering protected jobs in your area, good for you!
Steve says, “I always buy American products, if it’s better quality. Some things aren’t, like cars.”

Again, I hope to see more pictures from you soon enough. You needn’t feel bad for buying stuff for yourself… as with these purchases, I think they’re quite legit!
Alec and I have been wanting to get a new computer, mostly me actually, since ours is about 6 years old as well if not older, but am still waiting… Saving up for the money maybe cuz it’s good to pay off my bills first, and I’m getting there! heh! Happy Wednesday Steve!!! xoxo
Steve says, “Happy Hump Day to you!!!! My computer was high end when I bought it 6 years ago, so I can still get 2-3 more years out of it, before it’s obsolete. I’m looking now, though. It takes me a long time to purchase stuff. Research everything.”

You need to be a better capitalist or the terrorists have won.
Buy yourself a new TV too! Worked for me.
Steve says, “A television is next on the list.”

I like buying things both for myself and others. And I think being pampered is fun! Did you ever get a facial at a spa? I did when I was on a cruise and it was so relaxing. I really enjoyed it. And it doesn’t hurt. But you are worth spending money on and so you should Can’t wait to see what you will snap with your new camera! You can come to Hampden and take photos of the burned out church!
Steve says, “I’ve never had a spa facial or a man-on-man facial
I haven’t watched the news in so long. Didn’t know a church burned in Hampden. I happen to be at Johns Hopkins Hospital (not the University Campus where I lived but the Medical Campus) today (visiting someone who works there). For a hospital which is consistently rated #1, it’s amazing how dangerous the surrounding neighborhood is! There’s a picture which I’m dying to take. But there’s dealers hanging on the corner, and I’m concerned that I’ll get robbed. I couldn’t even walk down that block without being hit up for purchasing drugs (Boy or Girl and News Vine? That’s what it sounds like they’re saying). Seriously, out of the 20 or so people hanging on that block, about 15 of them hit me up to purchase a substance. So, that may not be my next picture.

Steve, you are hopelessly neurotic. But that’s one of the things I love about you.
The manicure and pedicure sound nice. I’ve never done either, don’t have a strong desire to do so. As for getting the eyebrows “cleaned up”- UGH! You have nice eyebrows. Very masculine. Leave them the hell alone! I watched my gay son get his eyebrows waxed once. I think it hurt me more than it hurt him, and it HURT him! I never have and Lord willing never will get any of my hair removed by ripping it out with wax. Ick!
I buy myself stuff sometimes, but rarely do I make a major purchase for myself. I have bought a high end washer and dryer and stove for myself over the past few years. Since those are household appliances I’m not sure that counts. I want a really nice refrigerator, too, but funds haven’t been available recently. Superman bought me a digital camera for Christmas, but I sent him out to do so. Does that count as getting it for myself?
Steve says, “I didn’t get the brows sculpted! Egads. They look exactly the way you’d recall, except they made them a little less bushy. But no change in the natural ’shape & contour.’ Sending Superman out, to do it, counts as getting it for yourself, as far as I’m concerned!”

You’re one f*@ked up dude is all I can say. rrrr I am much the same way. I HATE buying big ticket items but I will nickel and dime myself to death. I have been hum hawing over a dvd dubbing/recording system for months. I want to get my family tapes on DVD while I have a vcr that works. I don’t know what the deal is. A pedicure would be nice but I think I would be embarrassed. Yeah we have to be good to ourself. And without guilt.
Steve says, “NO! This is fucked up! What you’re talking about is a whole other blog entry….about how long it takes me to buy things
I wouldn’t have bought this monitor if the other hadn’t died. And a digital camera was on my list for about 3 years. Only bought the damned thing cuz it was too good of a price to pass up. Ridicule played a role too! I’ve got the cash flow, but am wary of buying the wrong product or a lemon. Plus I pinch pennies, always looking for a bargain!”

I never feel remorseful about buying things for myself. There wasn’t a lot of disposable income growing up so I just had the basic things a kid needs with a few extras thrown in now and then. I put myself through college without financial aid and have worked very hard to be successful in my line of work. I believe in treating myself the way I deserve to be treated. I also treat others well too. Each Christmas I buy toys for children in crisis. It is the most rewarding thing I have ever done. Reading the thank you notes brings tears to my eyes.
Steve says, “Good for you. I’m slowly learning to do that for myself.”
